Chinese Snowflake Obsidian
Chinese Snowflake Obsidian is a natural volcanic glass admired for its striking contrast of jet-black background accented by soft gray to white “snowflake” patterns. These distinctive markings are formed by crystallized feldspar (cristobalite) inclusions that develop as the obsidian slowly cools, creating a bold yet balanced appearance.
With a Mohs hardness of approximately 5 to 5.5, Chinese Snowflake Obsidian is best suited for jewelry pieces such as beads, cabochons, and carvings that are worn with care. Commonly sourced from China, this material is valued for its dramatic visual texture and timeless monochrome palette.
