Silver Sheen Obsidian is a mesmerizing variety of natural volcanic glass that offers a sophisticated, monochromatic twist on standard Black Obsidian. While it appears deep black at first glance, moving the stone under a direct light source reveals a brilliant, metallic "sheen" or chatoyancy that mimics the glow of moonlight on dark water.

This striking optical phenomenon—often referred to as the "Schiller" effect—is caused by tiny, microscopic bubbles of gas or water vapor trapped within the glass as the lava cooled rapidly. Unlike Rainbow Obsidian, which displays a spectrum of colors, the Silver Sheen variety is prized for its icy, singular brilliance and high-contrast aesthetic.
