Crazy Agate

Crazy Agate (often used interchangeably with Crazy Lace Agate) is a captivating variety of banded chalcedony celebrated for its complex, chaotic patterns and vibrant energy. Unlike the orderly, parallel layers found in traditional agates, Crazy Agate is characterized by a "lace" of twisting lines, zigzag fortifications, and circular "eyes." Its natural palette is a festive mosaic of creamy whites, warm greys, and earthy browns, often electrified by bold splashes of scarlet, tangerine, and golden yellow caused by iron and aluminum inclusions.

With a Mohs hardness of 6.5 to 7, Crazy Agate is a robust and resilient stone, making it an excellent choice for jewelry that requires durability, such as beaded bracelets, statement rings, and polished cabochons. Its microcrystalline structure allows it to take a high, glass-like polish that beautifully highlights the depth of its "crazy" geometric layers. While similar banded agates appear globally, the most iconic, high-contrast specimens are famously sourced from the limestone deposits of Chihuahua, Mexico.
