Eagle Eye (also known as Grey Tiger’s Eye) is a captivating variety of quartz that exhibits a rare and dramatic chatoyancy, or "cat’s eye" effect. While its close relative, Tiger's Eye, displays golden-yellow hues, Eagle Eye is characterized by its sophisticated palette of silvery-greys, deep charcoals, and silken blacks. This shimmering optical phenomenon is caused by the parallel growth of amphibole mineral fibers that have been replaced by silica, creating a lustrous, metallic sheen that seems to glide across the surface of the stone when moved in the light.

With a Mohs hardness of 6.5 to 7, Eagle Eye is a robust and durable gemstone, making it an excellent choice for everyday jewelry such as beaded bracelets, statement rings, and polished pendants. Its tough, fibrous structure allows it to take an exceptionally high polish, which is essential for showcasing the depth and movement of its signature chatoyant bands. The most significant and high-quality deposits of this striking grey variety are found in South Africa and Western Australia.
