Fossil Coral

Fossil Coral is a spectacular natural gemstone formed when ancient coral is gradually replaced by agate over millions of years through a process known as "permineralization." This transformation preserves the delicate, skeletal structures of the prehistoric coral polyps, resulting in intricate, flower-like patterns often referred to as "stars" or "chrysanthemums" frozen within the stone. Its palette is typically warm and organic, featuring shades of sandy tan, soft cream, burnt orange, and deep charcoal.

With a Mohs hardness of 6.5 to 7, Fossil Coral is significantly harder and more durable than living coral (which is quite soft), as it has essentially turned into chalcedony. While fossilized reefs are found in various ancient seabed locations, the most prized, high-contrast specimens are predominantly sourced from Indonesia and the United States (specifically Florida and Georgia).
