Spinel
For centuries, Spinel was the world’s most famous "undercover" gemstone. Many of the most celebrated "rubies" in crown jewels—including the famous "Black Prince's Ruby" in the British Imperial State Crown—were actually Red Spinels. Today, Spinel is no longer in the shadow of other gems; it is highly coveted by collectors and connoisseurs for its incredible brilliance, high refractive index, and spectacular range of natural colors.
Unlike many other gemstones, Spinel is rarely treated or enhanced, meaning the vibrant pinks, deep blues, lavenders, and the increasingly popular "cool" greys you see are exactly as nature intended.
